Cruise Age Requirements

Families with Kids

The majority of cruise lines allow children to sail on their ships, although infants and pregnant women are subject to some restrictions.

Families reserving multiple cabins might need to meet minimum age criteria for children occupying a different cabin. Once you identify a cruise that piques your interest, your LavishCruise International counselor can verify these requirements for you.

Visitors Below 25 Years Old

All cruise companies mandate that at least one individual in each cabin fulfills a minimum age criterion. The minimum age limit for any cruise line is 18 years old. The details below were supplied by the cruise lines at the time of this writing, are liable to change, and must be confirmed with your VLavishCruise International advisor before making a reservation.

The subsequent cruise lines mandate that at least one individual in each cabin is 18 years of age or older:

Celestyal Cruises, Cunard, Explora Journeys, MSC Cruises (if leaving from international ports), Oceania, P&O Cruises, Ponant, Quark Expeditions, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, SeaDream, Star Clippers, and Virgin Voyages.

The cruise lines listed below stipulate that every passenger in a cabin must be at least 18 years old or that at least one individual in the cabin is 21 or older:

Disney Cruise Line, Silversea, and Viking Line.

The cruise lines listed below mandate that a minimum of one individual in every cabin is 21 years of age or above:

Azamara, Celebrity, Holland America, Hurtigruten, MSC Cruises (when leaving from U.S. ports), Norwegian Cruise Line, Paul Gauguin Cruises, Princess Cruises, Royal Caribbean, and Seabourn Cruise Line.

The cruise lines listed below mandate that every passenger in a cabin is 21 years old or that at least one individual in the cabin is 25 years old or older:

Carnival, Costa, and Windstar Cruise Lines.

For Carnival, guests must be at least 21 years old on embarkation day to travel independently. The ages of guests will be confirmed at the time of boarding. Guests who do not adhere to this policy will face denied boarding and will not receive any compensation at embarkation.

An exception might be granted for underage married couples by Carnival and Windstar, provided both individuals are 18. For Costa, there might be an allowance for married couples who are underage, provided that both are 21. These couples might need to provide evidence of their marriage. This exception relies on the specific policy of each cruise line and must be verified by your LavishCruise International counselor before making a reservation.

Carnival also grants exceptions for eligible U.S. Military members who are 18 years old or older. Evidence of military eligibility will be required during booking, along with the necessary verification documents at embarkation.

Guests aged 18 to 21 with Carnival, Costa, and Windstar bookings may have their own cabin, provided the booking is linked to the stateroom of an adult relative or guardian.

Your age at the time of departure is typically regarded as your age for the duration of the cruise.

Alcohol Consumption

Once you set sail, the minimum age for drinking alcohol differs by cruise line. The minimum age to consume alcoholic drinks on all Azamara, Celebrity, and Royal Caribbean vessels is 21. Nevertheless, on cruises that set sail from European and South American nations, where the legal drinking age is generally under 21, a parent accompanying their child or children aged 18 to 20 may complete a waiver permitting the 18 to 20-year-old to drink alcohol.

Gaming Onboard

Gambling, a popular form of entertainment on cruise ships, also has age restrictions that differ between cruise lines. Carnival, Celestyal, Costa, Cunard, Holland America, Norwegian, Oceania, P&O, Paul Gauguin Cruises, Regent Seven Seas and SeaDream require passengers to be 18 or older to play in the shipboard casinos. Azamara, Celebrity and Royal Caribbean require passengers to be 18 or older to play in casinos, except for Alaska cruises (passengers must be 21 or older). MSC Cruises, Princess, Seabourn, Silversea and Windstar restrict the casinos to travelers 21 and older.
